As we age, our skin ages, too. A number of factors contribute to skin aging, but in Phoenix, sun damage is the top offender. As skin ages, its deeper layers lose elasticity, and its more superficial layers become more irregular and less smooth. Laser skin rejuvenation uses specific wavelengths of highly focused light to help repair and tighten damaged skin.
At Visage, our surgeons use the Lumenis Ultra Pulse system. This is a carbon dioxide (CO2) ablative laser that functions by tightening deep layers of collagen to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. As the skin heals following laser treatment, the skin becomes thicker and smoother, leaving patients with a more youthful appearance.

The Laser Skin Rejuvenation Procedure
When performing laser skin resurfacing, Dr. Berbos and Dr. Moore aspire to restore a more youthful and natural texture and appearance to your skin.
Laser skin resurfacing and rejuvenation can often be performed in our office or in the operating room. Prior to the procedure, we will apply a topical anesthetic to your skin to minimize discomfort. Laser skin resurfacing and rejuvenation takes approximately 30 to 60 minutes to complete. The procedure can also be combined with other procedures, like lower eyelid blepharoplasty or an eyebrow lift. Most patients are very satisfied with their results following one procedure, but touch-ups may be required.
There are several risks associated with laser skin resurfacing and rejuvenation. These complications are rare, but it is important for all patients to consider these risks prior to undergoing the procedure. These risks include redness, scarring, infection, acne, pigmentation and milia (small, white bumps on the skin).
Results and Recovery After Laser Skin Rejuvenation
Following laser skin rejuvenation, you will experience temporary redness, swelling and itchiness. These symptoms can be improved by using ice and pain medication, like Tylenol or other pain medications. While recovering, you will also need to apply a thick, gel-like ointment to your face to help promote healing and prevent infection. While healing, it is of the utmost importance that you avoid the sun, as sun exposure can affect the healing process and lead to permanent redness and scarring. Most patients heal within two weeks.
Post-surgery recommendations following laser skin rejuvenation include:
Apply an ice pack to the surgical areas during the first week after surgery to control swelling.
Avoid sun exposure.
Do not smoke.
Avoid strenuous exercise or lifting weights over eight pounds for one week after surgery.
