As we age, our face loses volume, which can lead to a deflated, sunken appearance. Volume loss also intensifies the appearance of deep lines and wrinkles. Lost volume can be replaced with several different materials, including hyaluronic acid gel filler, other synthetic fillers and fat. Dermal fillers can also be used to enhance the chin area.
Over the past decade, many new and different types of fillers have been developed. Most fillers are from hyaluronic acid gel, a material that is naturally produced by your body. Fillers can also be made from calcium hydroxyapatite, a material found in bone, or other synthetic materials. At Visage Aesthetics and Plastic surgery, we only utilize fillers that are biocompatible.
Benefits of Dermal Fillers
Dermal fillers can:

Restore youthful volume and contour to the cheeks.
Improve the appearance of hollowing and dark circles under the eyes.
Increase fullness of the lips.
Increase chin projection and reduce the appearance of a “weak chin”.
Restore a more harmonious and natural facial appearance.

The Dermal Fillers Process
At Visage Aesthetics and Plastic Surgery, Dr. Berbos or Dr. Moore will thoroughly examine your unique facial anatomy to create a customized treatment plan.
We offer a wide selection of dermal fillers, including:
Juvéderm Ultra XC
At your initial appointment, Dr. Berbos or Dr. Moore will address your specific concerns, desired results and the different types of dermal fillers that can best help you meet your aesthetic goals. Above all else, Dr. Berbos and Dr. Moore aspire to restore youthful facial contours and create natural-looking results when injecting dermal fillers.
Dermal filler injection is usually performed in our clinic, but it can also be performed in the operating room if a patient is undergoing surgery, like a brow lift or an upper eyelid blepharoplasty. Prior to dermal filler injection, the injection sites are cleaned and a topical anesthetic cream is used to numb the area. We also use ice to further numb the area immediately prior to injection.
The process of dermal filler injection takes between 15 and 30 minutes, and most patients can go back to work the same day. You will likely have increased swelling at the injection site, which will dissipate over the next two to three days. Sometimes, patients experience bruising at injection sites, but this is rare.
Similar to all other surgeries and in-office procedures, dermal filler injection does have risks. Although rare, these potential side effects include bruising, firmness, redness, tenderness, swelling, lumpiness, itching and infection.
Results and Recovery After Dermal Fillers
Following the injection of dermal fillers, patients usually experience some swelling at the site of injection. This swelling usually dissipates within the first one to three days following injection. We require patients to apply an icepack after injection to help with swelling and pain. The results of filler injection are observable immediately following injection. For most fillers, results last for approximately one year. At your initial evaluation, Dr. Berbos or Dr. Moore will provide specific information regarding the longevity of specific fillers.
Post-procedure recommendations following dermal filler injection include:
Apply an ice pack to the injection sites immediately after injection to help with pain and swelling.
Do not smoke.
Avoid strenuous exercise or lifting weights for 24 hours after dermal filler injection.
